SENIOR ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or a related field, and 4-7 years of post-college experience in public relations, with several years of experience as the day-to-day account lead. Tourism or hospitality industry, and/or agency experience required – both preferred.
  • This role is remote, but would ideally be based in New York, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Dallas or Houston.
  • Media relationships with lifestyle, travel, food and beverage beat writers, editors and freelancers, regionally and nationally, and proven ability to secure consistent, high-quality media coverage.
  • Excellent writing skills and grammatical knowledge; proficiency in AP Style.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; collaborative nature.
  • Creative thinker, who loves coming up with new ideas, or improving upon the tried-and-true.
  • Proactive and organized; must have strong ability to balance multiple projects concurrently, prioritize, and take ownership of projects and relationships.
  • Work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility and willingness to occasionally work nights and weekends.
  • Knowledge of and experience using Muck Rack, as well as key social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, TripAdvisor and Yelp.
  • Strong knowledge of the tourism, hospitality and food/beverage industries, as well as knowledge of corresponding media outlets (travel, lifestyle, culinary media verticals).
  • Team player with a “can do” attitude with a commitment to bettering skillsets, client work, and the agency as a whole.
  • Multilingual, knowledge of food and wine and love of travel are all appreciated.

 

DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Account Management:

  • Serve as the day-to-day lead on client accounts, under the direction of agency leadership.
  • Maintain consistent communication with clients and team, setting internal deadlines and ensuring those deadlines are met by you and your team.
  • Respond to client emails and/or calls promptly; use judgment to ensure sensitive issues are responded to during off hours/weekends.
  • Lead monthly meetings or calls, encouraging the client to treat the meeting as a dialogue in which results are discussed and problems are actively solved via strategic insight. Proactively anticipate problems before calls and prepare solutions to address them.
  • Lead the development of each account’s annual account strategy, with minor assistance from agency leadership and teammates. Lead the creation of additional strategic documents, as warranted and as needed throughout the year.
  • Manage execution of account strategy, ensuring monthly initiatives match those outlined in the annual strategy brief, as well as the client’s scope of work. Ensure monthly initiatives are being fulfilled by all team members, well in advance of monthly meetings. If initiatives aren’t being met, ensure that it is communicated to client with an explanation as to why.
  • Maintain consistent knowledge of current trends within the travel, hospitality and food/beverage industries, counseling clients on trends, industry forecasts and the competitive landscape on an ongoing basis.
  • Draft website copy, blogs, awards submissions, advertorials and other deliverables, as required by clients, as desired by the client and stipulated in the client scope of work.
  • Lead the coordination of media events from start to finish, drafting and executing thoughtful run of shows (creating new formats and ideas as needed), and managing events onsite. Conduct and lead client and media follow-up and reporting promptly.
  • With assistance from junior staff (as available), monitor, collect, track, evaluate and create reports on public relations tactics and competitive activity – weekly, monthly and quarterly – as needed.

 Media Relations:

  • Maintain successful relationships with key media members, locally, regionally and nationally; leverage relationships to generate strong client results.
  • Develop new media relationships on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure each client’s media relations strategy is effective; consistently update media relations strategy to maintain a steady flow of both short and long lead coverage through the campaign(s).
  • Lead and book New York City media tours with clients and junior staff (as applicable).
  • Draft press kit documents, pitches and other PR and marketing collateral, ensuring press kit reflects brand standards of each client, and effectively highlights their unique differentiators, while also acting as a useful tool for media.
  • Ensure the client receives all media coverage in a very timely manner, either from you or your team members and is delivered in a manner that merchandises the agency’s relationships, efforts and/or understanding of the client’s business.
  • Develop and manage media lists, editorial calendars and more, using Muck Rack or relevant tools.

 Other reasonable duties as assigned.

  • Understand social media, each channel’s utility and ways to integrate digital tactics into traditional communication strategies.
  • Support and help generate new business development.
  • Manage, mentor and foster growth of junior team members.

 

COMPENSATION:

  • Salary starting at $60,000
  • Three weeks paid vacation, plus one week flex time between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Bumps to four weeks after three years of employment with company.

  • Regularly seek out new opportunities with new media outlets nationally, and foster into longstanding relationships – personally, and on behalf of agency – or ensure members of your team are fostering those relationships.
  • Analyze client competitor results to ensure all possible media results, best practices and new tactics are being incorporated into your campaigns.
  • Ensure each client’s media relations strategy is effective; consistently update media relations strategy to maintain steady flow of both short and long lead coverage through campaign(s).
  • Lead and book New York City media tours with clients and junior staff (as applicable).
