The Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) Colorado Chapter hosts an annual shadow day for college students interested in the public relations industry; students are invited to visit agencies and practitioners in order to dip their feet in the nine-to-five life of Colorado’s PR pros. This year, BPR was thrilled to play host to not one, but two, budding publicists.

Senior Lehua La’a, a junior, visited BPR from Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo., while Claudia Miller, a sophomore, came all the way from Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D.!

The ladies spent the day working closely with assistant account executives Catie and Chelsea, and attended a luncheon with fellow student shadows, which included a roundtable comprised of some of Denver’s top media gurus.

“Getting to spend the PRSA Shadow Day with the ladies of B Public Relations was a wonderful experience,” Miller shared. “I learned many things about working in the public relations field that I definitely couldn’t have been taught in a classroom, and got to see how B Public Relations helps businesses through networking and building connections. Catie and Chelsea answered any questions we  could think of about working in PR. I didn’t have a clear idea of what the daily job of a public relations professional could involve, and getting to spend time at their office taught me so much! Everyone also seemed to have a real interest and passion for their job, which was encouraging to me as a public relations student. I couldn’t have imagined having a better host for this awesome opportunity!”

We enjoyed getting to know these young, future PR professionals. For those interested in diving deeper into the industry with BPR and other agencies, be sure to keep an eye on PRSA’s website for future shadow days and other student opportunities, or inquire with your local PRSSA student group – BPR recently hosted a “Learn from the Pros” Colorado State PRSSA event, and is always happy to speak with student organizations, as are many of our fellow practitioners!
